Railway holidays adventure on your own

As an alternative to tour operated railway holidays you can organize everything on your own. The cheapest way to do so is probably by getting an interrail ticket. InterRail is a company providing train passes for 30 rail companies in Europe. It allows you to enjoy unlimited train travel in your chosen countries on as many days as you choose to cover. You can order your pass online and delivery is free to 20 countries. Bear in mind that the pass is valid mostly on regional trains only. So if you want to use high-speed InterCity trains or over night services with your own cabin this will cost extra and requires prebooking.

Furthermore, you should plan your journey well ahead as infrastructure of rail networks and availability of good connections may very by country. There might me only one train per day running on certain routes, so be cautious that you know how to return or where to sleep. It is also advised to be careful with your belongings when traveling as stealing and burglary on trains especially on night services can pose a common risk. Sill, remember to take cash with you as you need to pay for your self-catering and not all of the places you visit will have credit card devices.

The best thing about having an unlimited pass is that you can literarily get off the train whenever you like the scence or station and get on the next available train to continue with your journey. Have a safe and adventurous journey and tell us how your railway holidays went for you.
